"Basically ...my high school photography
courses were the only ones I showed up to regularly. I guess
I had my career all figured out - or maybe I was just trying
to avoid math class.” laughs Rachelle Rousseau.
“I got my start in the equine world. Horses are a
big part of my life and my first paying clients were horse
owners.” explains Rachelle.
Like many other professional photographers, Rachelle worked
for several years as a wedding photographer to make up for
the lack of work in the equine industry. After several years
Rachelle’s inspiration was starting to dwindle. It
was time for a change. Rachelle enrolled in a college graphic
design course.
What was supposed to be a change of career only became drastically
new inspiration to begin photographing in a new way. “I
was exposed to true commercial photography and conceptual
thinking. This really opened my eyes and has changed how
I see things.”
Rachelle and her husband Patrick, an art director and graphic
designer, started a new business using a different approach.
“We now conduct our sessions like commercial shoots.
We interview our clients, find out about their interests
and come up with ideas that are relevant to their story.”
Rachelle laughing says, “We really take the time to
get it right. We usually wear out the clients before we
wear out ourselves. But it’s worth it!”
